6 Things You Can Do In The Smokies For Valentine's Day

If you're like so many folks who are either married or in a relationship but haven't yet made plans for Valentine's Day, we can assure you that you're not alone. And you'll also be glad to know there's still time to pull together some spectacular plans that will hopefully knock the socks off your significant other next week.

We think you can't go wrong by making plans to celebrate Valentine's Day in the Great Smoky Mountains. There's so much to do here that you shouldn't have much trouble at all finding a fun, interesting and/or romantic idea that will have special meaning to that special someone.

If you're stumped for the best way to say “I love you” this year, consider one or more of the following ideas, courtesy of Smoky Mountain Ziplines:

• Book one or more nights in an overnight rental

The Smokies are home to thousands of rental properties, most of which come with awesome views of the mountains, secluded locations and luxury amenities like hot tubs, fireplaces, game rooms and more. For just two people, a one-bedroom cabin or chalet is easily affordable and offers all the comforts of home while affording the privacy and beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains.

• Take the plunge

Did you know that the Smokies are known as The Wedding Capital of the South? That's because we're home to dozens of wedding chapels and wedding providers, several of which are located in unique venues. If you'd like to say “I do” in a beautiful setting, what better location than the Smokies, and what better time than Valentine's Day? We recommend doing some online research to find the wedding chapel that best suits your needs and budget and booking something as soon as possible since Valentine's week is obviously a busy time of year for the industry. Also keep in mind that you'll need a valid Tennessee marriage license before you can tie the knot.

Of course, if you're getting married in the Smokies, you might as well honeymoon here too, right? And for that, we refer you back to our first recommendation about booking your accommodations through an overnight rental company. For that matter, we've got hundreds of hotel and motel properties as well as bed and breakfast inns to choose from too.

• Renew your vows

We know a great many of you may already be married, so just imagine what a romantic spin a vow renewal ceremony and a few nights away in a secluded location would put on this year's Valentine's Day festivities?

• Say “I love you” with a gift

Men, you can't go wrong with jewelry (especially diamonds) when it comes to showing her how much she means to you. But there are all kinds of ways to a lady's (or man's) heart, and even if it's not jewelry, the many outlet malls, specialty stores and craft studios you'll find in the Smokies guarantee you'll find something that will touch the other person's heart.

• Enjoy a romantic dinner out on the town

This one's easy. Find a nice restaurant with romantic ambiance and good food (and maybe some candlelight, if possible), and you've got the recipe for a winning Valentine's Day meal. A few recommendations we can offer are Greenbrier Restaurant, The Melting Pot or The Peddler, all in Gatlinburg.

• Do something fun!

Sometimes, you just need to invest in a little quality time with your partner, and a great way to do that is visit an attraction and have some fun. Our Gatlinburg zipline attraction is closed for the winter right now, but you'll still have no trouble choosing from among dozens of world-class attractions and shows.
